Robert Browning was an English poet and playwright known for his use of dramatic monologue. He was born on May 7, 1812 in Camberwell, England. He was the son of Robert and Sarah Anna Browning. He married poet, Elizabeth Barrett, in 1846. His son, Robert Wiedemann Barrett Browning, was born three years later in 1849. Browning lived much of his life in Italy. Many of his poems were not a critical success in his era, but are still widely studied today. He died on December 12, 1889.
